ABOUT THE FOUNDER

ANGIE LIN

Angie Lin Syphon Coffee Brewing

Angie Lin moved to Melbourne, Australia with her mother at the age of seventeen. It was there that she first found herself deeply influenced by coffee culture.

Surrounded by Melbourne’s cafés and the connections people built over a cup of coffee, Angie entered the coffee industry in 2015. Over the years, she explored coffee through sourcing, roasting, flavour and brewing.

In 2019, she began preparing for the 2020 World Brewers Cup Championship. The pandemic put those plans on hold, but also led her towards an unexpected new chapter.

During that time, Angie co-founded a café with a friend and spent the following six years building and operating the business.

Her journey eventually extended beyond brewing. From coffee sourcing and roasting to product development and business operations, she continued to explore a simple question:

“What makes a cup of coffee meaningful?”

Known for her passion for Syphon brewing, Angie believes that the experience of coffee begins long before the first sip.

There is fire.

There is aroma.

There is sound.

There is movement.

First, the senses. Then, the image.
First, the emotion. Then, the flavour.

She believes that everything should begin with simplicity — starting from the source, carefully selecting what matters, and allowing its story to be carried forward through the hands of the person who prepares it.

THE BEGINNING OF WU

In 2025, Angie founded WU BRAND.

“WU” comes from the Chinese character 「悟」 — representing awareness, realisation and the idea of looking inward.

After years in coffee and entrepreneurship, Angie began asking herself:

“Beyond creating products, what else can we give people?”

That question became the beginning of WU.

WU is more than coffee. It is an exploration of life through the five senses — sight, scent, taste, touch and sound.

Inspired by Eastern philosophy and the idea of looking inward, WU hopes to create products and experiences that invite people to slow down.

  • A cup of coffee.
  • A bowl of matcha.
  • A quiet moment for yourself.

To look. To smell. To taste. And perhaps, to feel yourself again.

FROM COFFEE TO CHINESE MATCHA

WU began with coffee — Angie’s most familiar language.

From sourcing to roasting, every selection is made with care. Her goal is not to make specialty coffee feel complicated, but to make the sensory world more accessible to everyone.

Later, Angie turned her attention to matcha.

With her Chinese cultural background, she wanted to explore and share another side of the story — Chinese matcha and China’s long history of tea culture.

As matcha continues to capture the attention of a new generation, WU hopes to introduce people to its Chinese origins, craftsmanship and flavour.

This is not about comparing which is better. It is about rediscovering stories that deserve to be seen.

AWAKEN EVERY SENSE

WU believes that an experience is never just about the product.

It begins with where it comes from, how it is made, and everything you feel before the first sip.

That is what WU represents. And that is why Angie created this brand.

To help us slow down.

To reconnect with our senses.

And perhaps, in the process, rediscover ourselves.
